Hanna Walter

Hanna Walter ( * November 24, 1939 ) is a former Austrian figure skater, which was launched in a single run. It is the European champion of 1959.

Career

Walter came out of the talent from the Viennese Eislaufverein together with Hanna Eigel and Ingrid Wendl. This financed the rival runners, the training sessions, the ice ages and found two pairs of custom-made skates per year. International Walter first appeared at the European Championships in 1954 in the Italian Bolzano in appearance, as she took a ninth place in the victory of German Champion Gundi Busch. At the European Championships a year later they finished the victory of their team mate Hanna Eigel as the second best Austrian fifth place, but could not run the world championships at the end.

In the following years it succeeded Walter, to continuously improve. Nevertheless, she was always in the shadow of her teammates Eigel and Wendl. This granted at the major sporting events always medals and titles from, for example, at the European Championships in 1957, when Walter was able to win their first medal with 3rd place, as well as at the European Championships and World Cup in 1958, when she took two or three space. It was only after the change of Eigel and Wendl turned professional Walter succeeded in 1959 by winning the European Championship in Davos a great success. In this case, it referred the later series champion Sjoukje Dijkstra and their Dutch compatriot Joan Haan Appel on the courts. In the same year, the Austrian reached at the World Championships in Colorado Springs, their best finish at a World Cup and won silver behind the local hero and Olympic champion Carol Heiss.

After finishing her amateur career, Walter dedicated in 1960 to the professional sport and brought it by appearing in ice shows on an annual income 40000-50000 Mark.
