Hans-Joachim Frey

Hans -Joachim Frey ( born June 10, 1965 in Gehrden, Lower Saxony ) is a German cultural manager, who has worked in Austria, Germany and Russia. He was from 1997 to 2007 Artistic Director of Operations and Director of Opera ( from 2003) at the Semperoper in Dresden from 2007 to 2010 and general director at the Theater Bremen. Life

Youth and Education

Frey comes from a family originally from East Prussia and is the son of Christa Frey, born Grigel and Pastor Dietrich Frey. He attended school in Lower Saxony's capital of Hanover. From the seventh to the twentieth year, he received piano lessons at the age of eight he joined the Hannover Boys Choir, where he remained ten years. Time in Dresden

In May 1997, Frey was hired as Artistic Director of Operations of the Saxon State Opera Dresden at the Semperoper. There he pursued a policy of internationalization of the singers and enabled productions by well-known directors such as Willi Decker, Sebastian Baumgarten, Nemirova, Claus Guth, Nikolaus Lehnhoff, Günter Krämer and Peter Konwitschny.
