Hélécine ( Walloon Élessene ) is a commune in the French-speaking province of Walloon Brabant in Belgium. It consists of the three districts Linsmeau, Neerheylissem and Opheylissem.

Geology

Hélécine is traversed by the Little Gete. It is located at the extreme east of the province of Brabant Wallon, halfway between Brussels and Liège. In the north Hélécine borders of Flemish Brabant, in the east by the province of Liège. The neighboring municipalities are Jodoigne in the West, Orp- manure in the south, the east and Lincent Hoegaarden, Tienen and landing in the north.

History

Until 1893 Linsmeau formed with Noduwez (now part of Orp- manure ) a municipality. The community Hélécine arose as a result of local government reform in 1977 by the merger of Linsmeau, Neerheylissem and Opheylissem.

Parish council

The municipal council ( Conseil Communal ) of Hélécine has 13 members; out of it the Collège with the mayor and aldermen three ( Echevins ) is formed.

Coat of arms

Since 1996 Hélécine leads a coat of arms and a flag. The coat of arms is derived from that of the lords of Linsmeau, which was described in 1696. The flag is white with a red slanted beams.

Culture and sights

On the grounds of 28 acres of today's provincial domain Opheylissem is the castle -like former Premonstratensian abbey Heylissem. The buildings were constructed from 1760 to 1780 after plans by the architect Laurent- Benoît Dewez. Today are the dome of the church as well as the two wings of the Prelature. The buildings and the park was redesigned in 1870 by Alphonse Balat in the neoclassical style. Not far from the provincial domain is the parish church of St. Martin. It was built around 1830.

In the district Neerheylissem is originally from the 12th century Romanesque St. Sulpitius Church. It is a three-nave church with a transept. What is striking is the massive and increased in the 17th century tower.

The ravine Longa in the north of Neerheylissem was provided in 1983 under conservation.

Economy and infrastructure

Hélécine is located on the E40 highway and is connected to the national road N64 from Hannut to Tienen. The community is predominantly agricultural.
