Henry Pybus Bell-Irving

Henry Pybus Bell - Irving, OC, DSO, OBE, OBC ( born January 21, 1913 in Vancouver, † 21 September 2002 ) was a Canadian businessman and officer. From 1978 to 1983 he was Vice- Governor of the Province of British Columbia.

Biography

Bell - Irving received his education at Vancouver Iceland and Scotland. In 1932, he interrupted his studies at the University of British Columbia after one year and sought instead to a military career. During World War II he was stationed in Europe. He commanded a company of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in Sicily and Italy. Later, he took command of the 10th Canadian Infantry Brigade, which played a significant role in the liberation of the Netherlands.

After the war, Bell - Irving returned to Vancouver and joined the family-owned real estate company Bell - Irving Insurance Agencies, whose president he became. In 1972 the company merged with A. E. LePage. From 1974 he was chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Vancouver, also President of the Canadian Real Estate Agents Association. Governor General Jules Léger sworn Bell - Irving on March 18, 1978 as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. This representative office he held until 15 July 1983.
