Hertsmere

Hertsmere is a local government district with the status of a borough in the county of Hertfordshire in England. Council is based in Borehamwood.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Urban District Bushey and Potters Bar, of Elstree Rural District and part of the Watford Rural District.

The name Hertsmere is a combination of the name of the county and the word " mere", which is in Old English for " boundary". This comes as obvious as Hertsmere bordered to the south of Greater London. After its establishment Hertsmere was initially a District, but was in 1977 by royal decree to a Borough.
