Hiam Abbass
Hiam Abbass (Arabic هيام عباس, DMG ʿ Abbās Hiyam; born November 30, 1960 in Nazareth, Israel) is an Israeli- Arab actress and film director.
Life
Hiam Abbass is one of the few outstanding Israeli actresses of Arab origin and appears regularly since 1994 in international film and television productions. In Germany it was known to a wider audience with her roles in the films The Syrian Bride (2004) and Paradise Now ( 2005). For the former film, she received a 2005 nomination for the European Film Award for Best Actress.
In the same year it occupied Steven Spielberg 's film Munich, which deals with the assassination of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
In the film rivals (2003) by Moufida Tlatli she seemed in too. 2007 belonged Abbass chaired by the U.S. filmmaker Paul Schrader to the jury of the film festival of Berlin and exhibited at the 2008 Berlinale her new film Lemon Tree before, they also turned as The Syrian Bride Eran Riklis with. For the lead role of Palestinian widow Salma, whose lemon tree garden is rated as a security risk for the feeding in the immediate vicinity of the Israeli Defense Minister, it was first time in 2008 with the Ophir Awards, Israel's national film prize, and received a nomination for the European Film Award 2008 for Best Actress. In addition to working as an actress Abbass also appeared sporadically as a filmmaker in appearance. After first short film work ( Le pain, 2001, La danse éternelle, 2004) they presented at the 69th International Film Festival of Venice in 2012 her first feature film Inheritance ( English-language festival title: Heritage ) before. The drama, for which she also wrote and played the lead role opposite the French Hafsia Herzi reports of the wedding preparations of a Palestinian family from Galilee, but is marked by the war between Israel and Lebanon. In the same year Abbass was appointed to the jury of the 65th International Film Festival of Cannes.
