Hochwald (mountain)

The Hochwald ( tschech. Hvozd, 749 m ) is one of the highest mountains in the Lusatian / Zittau Mountains, on the German -Czech border. Striking feature is the wide then mounted saddle-like shape, on the southern summit of the mountain cottage runs the border between Germany and Czech Republic. Because of its good view of the mountain bears the nickname observation tower of the Zittau Mountains.
Location
The Hochwald is located about two kilometers south of the spa town Oybin. On the mountain you will find an observation tower with tower house ( Turmbaude ) as well as the "Saxon " Bergbaude ( Hochwald Baude ). The " Bohemian " cottage was demolished after the end of World War II until 1951.

From the upper terrace of the Hochwald Baude is an undisturbed view in eastern, southern and western direction. It is close to the Phonolithkuppe of Sokol ( Falkenberg ) and the Jezevčí vrch ( Limberg ) rises. In good visibility conditions a distant view to the Jizera and Giant Mountains, the ridge, over the mountains of the Lusatian Mountains and to the Saxon Switzerland to northern Bohemia and eastern Erzgebirge is possible.
On the northern Hochwald top there is an observation tower that offers a view over the mountains of the Zittau Mountains with potters, Scharfstein, Oybin, Ameisenberg and Listen.
From the high woods are from the east over south to the northeast, among others, the following mountains, rocks, castles, places etc. visible Popova skala, Jizera with Smrk, Grabstejn, giant mountains with frost carrier, Vysoke kolo ), Snow Mountain, Ještěd, Trosky, Vysker in the Bohemian Paradise, Castle Lemberk, Ralsko, Bezděz, Rip, Saddleback, Milešovka, Buková hora vrch with a distinctive television tower, Klíč, Děčínský Sněžník Studenec, Saxon Switzerland, Pěnkavčí, Listen, Tanečnice, Hrazený, Valtenberg, Keulenberg, Czorneboh, Kottmar, Löbauer mountain, Rotstein, Königshainer mountains, Landeskrone, Zittau Mountains with Oybin, Zittau.
Way to the summit
- In the high forest performs a variety of marked trails. Good starting points for a visit to the mountain are the places Oybin, grove, Petro Vice and Krompach, but also the trail parking lot at the crest hole.
- About the Hochwald leads the historic ridge trail as European long-distance hiking trail E3, the long-distance hiking Zittau - Wernigerode and the Upper Lusatian mountain trail.
- In summer, the high forest is approached daily by a tourist shuttle train.
