Hugo Strauß

Hugo Strauß ( born June 25, 1907 in Mannheim, † November 1, 1941 in Golodajewa, Sverdlovsk Oblast ) was a German rower, the 1936 Olympic champion with the coxless pairs.

Hugo Strauss in 1935 second in the German championship with Willi Eichhorn. The following year, the two rowers from Mannheim RC 1875 could win the title and qualify therefore for the 1936 Olympic Games. There the two rowed with a win in the third lead directly to the final. In the final they won with three seconds ahead of the boat from Denmark. 1938 occupied the two Mannheim again took second place in the German Championship.

On Strauss' initiative a roller skating department was established since 1936 in Mannheim RC. This resulted in 1938 the Mannheim ice and roller sports club, was elected as its first chairman Strauss.

In 1939 he was a member of the SS-Totenkopf -Standarte " Thüringen".
