Igor González de Galdeano Aranzabal ( born November 1, 1973 in Vitoria ) is a Spanish road bicycle racer, who finished his career in late 2005. He worked from 2006 to 2011 and 2013 as general manager of Euskaltel -Euskadi professional teams.

Driver type

Igor González de Galdeano was known especially for his qualities as a time trialist, which he put time and again. So he reached numerous top rankings in the time trial of the Tour de France, the Vuelta a España, smaller tours and the Road World Championships.

Career

Igor González de Galdeano began his professional career in 1995 with the Basque team Euskaltel -Euskadi, where he remained until 1998. During this time he could retract his first small successes.

In 1999 and 2000 he drove for Vitalicio Seguros - Grupo Generali and could retract his first big success. In 1999 he won a stage of Tirreno- Adriatico and the prologue and a stage of the Vuelta a España. In the overall standings, he reached the second and in the points classification in third. However, in the following year he was unable to repeat this success.

In the years 2001 to 2003 he rode for ONCE - Eroski. In 2001 he reached the fifth place in the overall standings of the Tour de France and won a stage of the Vuelta a España. The following year he won the Tour of Germany and became Spanish Champion in the time trial. Like last year, he finished fifth in the Tour de France and won with his team the team time trial at the start of the Vuelta a España. The Road World Championship, he reached the third place in the time trial. In 2003 he won with his team again the team time trial of the Vuelta a España and was overall in fourth.

In his last two years as a pro he rode for Liberty Seguros and Liberty Seguros - Würth. He could not build on the successes of the past and finally finished with only 32 years of his career.

Doping

2000 Galdeano was after the Gran Premio de Llodio closed because of doping with nandrolone for six months. 2002, there was a renewed doping suspension of six months.
