Ilona Uhlíková-Voštová

Ilona Uhlíková, born Voštová ( born April 9, 1954 in Stod ) is a table tennis player from Czechoslovakia. The late 1960s and early 1970s, it was considered one of the strongest players in the world. It was in 1968 in Lyon European champion of the ladies, they also won ten times in competitions of the European Youth Championships. She first won the title at the adults and only two years later the title at the youth.

Private

The ABC of table tennis sport she learned in Marienbad by her father Rudolf VOSTA. In 1968 she moved to Prague, where she first played one year at Zizkov stadium, where he was coached by Zdeněk Šauer. She then moved to Rostislav Koudelka and went to Prague for start. Her achievements won Ilona Voštová before 1973. This year, they married and moved to Vlašim, early 1974 was born their daughter Marcela. After a pause she began again under the name Ilona Uhlíková with the competitive sports. In reports it is often listed under the double name Voštová - Uhlíková or Uhlíková - Voštová. Uhlíková is still active in table tennis and plays since 1991 to date (2007 ) for the TTC deep Lauter in Bavaria League North.

Successes in youth

In 1966 - at the age of 11 years - surprised Voštová in Czechoslovakia Championship of adults, where it reached number three in the singles. From 1966 to 1971 she took part in all European Championships for youth. In their first European Championship she came in mixed with Antonín Dvořák to the final. Overall, it was there 22 medals, winning 11 titles: 1970 and 1971 in singles, 1969 doubles with Alica Grofova, 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971 with the team as well as in the Mixed 1967 ( with Jiří Turai ), 1968 ( with Jiří Turai ), 1969 ( with Jiří Turai ) and 1970 ( with Milan Orlowski ). Second, it was 1967 and 1968 in single and 1969 double with Alica Grofova.

European Championships

From 1968 Voštová occurred also at European Championships of adults. It was in 1968 in Lyon Single European champion; in the final, she defeated the Russian soy Rudnowa. At 14, she was the then youngest European champion.

Two years later it came to Moscow again to the final Voštová against Rudnowa. But this time won the Russian, Voštová came in second. In mixed with Milan Orlowski she lost the 1976 final, in 1980 they won this competition. She also won silver with the team in 1970 and 1978.

World Championships

From 1967 to 1981 Voštová was represented at six world championships. The best rankings were the semi-finals in 1971 and the semifinals in singles Double 1969 ( with Jitka Karlíková ).

Other successes

In the European ranking tournament Europe Top 12 came Voštová 1971 and 1976 at No. 2 as well as 1973 and 1977 ranked third in the European ranking in 1971 they performed at square one.
