Ionatana Ionatana

Ionatana Ionatana CVO, OBE ( born 1938 ();? † 8 December 2000) was a politician tuvaluischer. Ionatana was 27 April 1999 until his death, Prime Minister of the country.

He belonged since independence of Tuvalu on October 1, 1978 to the Parliament. In his political career, he held various offices, including the post of Secretary of State, the Department of Education and the Ministry of Labour and communication.

On 27 April 1999 Ionatana took over the premiership of Bikenibeu Paeniu. In his reign the admission of Tuvalu fell into the United Nations on 5 September 2000.
