Isabel Ruth

Isabel Ruth Silva Roberto Lopes dos Santos ( born April 6, 1940 in Tomar ) is a Portuguese actress.

Life

At 11 she began in Lisbon a ballet training at Ruth Aswin before she went for two years at the Royal Ballet School in London in 1958. Back in Portugal, she joined the Grupo Experimental de Ballet, emerged from the later the Ballet Gulbenkian. Ruth danced here successfully in several plays, such as Ritmo Violento choreographed by Norman Dickson. As an actress, she stood for the first time in 1961 on the stage, in the piece O Marinheiro ( " The Mariner " ) by Fernando Pessoa, as part of a series of events for the 25th anniversary of the death of Pessoa (Os 25 Anos da Morte de Fernando Pessoa, in the Centro Nacional de Cultura and in Casa da Comédia ). There were other theater roles in plays by, among other things Almada Negreiros.

Her first film role was in 1962 in the film, which marked a turning point in the history of the Portuguese film. Os Verdes Anos the director Paulo Rocha is considered the first work of the Novo Cinemas, the "New Portuguese film". She plays the role of a young woman whose relationship fails tragically to a newcomer in the big city. She then went to the Teatro Villaret Raul Solnado where they ( " The Government Inspector " by Gogol, staged by Ribeirinho ) remained after their first piece O Inspector Geral until 1967. In that year, she moved to Italy, where she became friends with Pier Paolo Pasolini and Bernardo Bertolucci. She made an extended trip to Nepal, and then spent some time in Italy and Spain, before they moved in 1973 back to Portugal, where they continue to kept away from artistic activities.

It was not until 1979, she was back on stage ( at the Teatro da Trindade, in Eden Cinema of Marguerite Duras, directed by Fernando Heitor ), and José Álvaro Morais front of the camera ( in O Bobo ). Theater, she then played rarely, as she stood in a number of films and increasingly for television series in front of the camera. Isabel Ruth is now considered one of the most renowned actresses of Portugal. 1999 dedicated to her the Portuguese Film Museum, a retrospective, and she received a 2007 Globo de Ouro. In 2006 their Fotopoesia had been published, a combination of poetry book and photo biography, with a foreword by Urbano Tavares Rodrigues.
