Itaboraí is a Municipio in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. In 2010 lived in Itaboraí 218 008 people, which are called Itaboraienser. Itaborai located about 40 km east of Rio de Janeiro. The municipality covers an area of ​​430.374 km ².

History

The story begins in 1567 Itaborais with the founding of the now defunct Santo Antônio de Sá. Itaborai took were beginning in 1671, when a chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist was consecrated. This building was replaced in 1684 and consecrated in 1696 as the parish church. This church has contributed to the economic advancement of the place. 1778 Itaborais was the most important village, which belonged to Santo Antônio de Sá. In 1827 a theater was opened in 1829 and led to malaria that Santo Antônio de Sá completely extinct. As Munizip Itaborais became independent on 15 January 1833 and the Council met on May 22, 1833 for the first time together. The shipping industry lost its importance when a railway line was opened on 23 April 1860.

Geography

The predominant climate is tropical - hot with the rainy season in the summer and dry winter months. The average temperature is 23 ° C.

The vegetation in the community consists mainly of pasture land, forests on the slopes of the mountains. In the forest areas is secondary forest, as a large part of the forests was beaten for the production of charcoal and as firewood. In the rest of the urban area, the forest areas are small and very scattered.

The Baía de Guanabara and the banks of the mouths of Rio and Rio Macacu Guaxindiba are lined with mangroves.

The neighboring municipalities are in the northwest Guapimirim, northeast Cachoeira de Macacu, in the east Tanguá, to the south and southwest Maricá São Gonçalo. A narrow tail extends towards the west to the Baía de Guanabara.

The north and west Itaborais is down from levels in the river valleys and the bay. Higher elevations are found in the Serra do Barbosão in the east on the border with Tanguá, as well as in the Serra do Lagarto and the Serra do Sul Cassorotiba on the border with Maricá. In between are flat-topped hills, rarely reach a height of more than 50 m above sea level.
