Iurie Leancă

Iurie Leanca ( born October 20, 1963 in Cimişlia, Moldavian SSR, Soviet Union ) is a Moldovan diplomat and politician. He's since April 2013 head of government of Moldova and was previously Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country.

Iurie Leanca was 1998-2001 First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova. From 2005 to 2007 he worked in the apparatus of the OSCE Commissioner on minority issues in the Netherlands. After his return to Chisinau, he was Vice President of the company ASCOM and Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Policy Association of Moldova. In the elections in July 2009, he was elected on the list of Liberal Democrat din Moldova Partidul ( PLDM ) to the Moldovan Parliament and in September by Prime Minister-designate Vlad Filat ( PLDM ) nominated for the post of foreign minister.

After the fall of Vlad Filats by a vote of no confidence in Parliament Iurie Leanca was first used in April 2013 as acting Prime Minister. On May 31, he was elected the new prime minister. His successor in the post of foreign minister was Natalia Gherman.
