John Oliver "Jack" Ernst ( born December 4, 1889 in Llewellyn, Pennsylvania, USA, † March 9, 1968 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania ) was a U.S. American football and baseball player. He played as a halfback and quarterback in the National Football League ( NFL) in the Pottsville Maroons, the New York Yankees, the Boston Bulldogs and the Frankford Yellow Jackets.

Playing career

Jack Ernst studied at Lafayette College, where he played football, baseball and basketball. The football team of the college he spent three years as the starting quarterback. Ernst won with the " Lafayette Leopards " 20 of 27 games. After his studies he joined the Pottsville Maroons, where he was teammates of Herb and Russ Stein. The crew of the Maroons won in his rookie season ten of twelve games and agreed to by the round itself the NFL champion. The NFL, however, told the Chicago Cardinals to the title holder.
