James B. Frazier, Jr.

James Beriah Frazier, Jr. ( born June 23, 1890 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, † 30 October 1978 ibid ) was an American politician. He represented the state of Tennessee as a deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Beriah Frazier Jr., son of James Beriah Frazier, attended the public school in Chattanooga and Baylor Preparatory School. Then he went to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He graduated in 1914 at Chattanooga College of Law. He was admitted as a lawyer in the same year and opened a practice in Chattanooga. During the First World War he undertook voluntarily. He served on April 21, 1917 until his discharge as a Major in march 1919. After the war he worked as a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee from 25 September 1933 until his resignation on 12 April 1948.

Frazier was elected as a Democrat to the 81st and the six succeeding Congresses. His term came from 3 January 1949 to 3 January 1963. He ran again for the 88th Congress, but failed. Then he took his work as a lawyer in Chattanooga again. During his tenure, he was involved in 1956 the Constitution of the Southern Manifesto, which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions.

James Frazier died on 30 October 1978 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was buried at Forest Hills Cemetery.
