Jani Hurme

Jani Petteri Hurme ( born January 7, 1975 in Turku ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender, who was most recently at Ilves Tampere of the SM - liiga in under contract.

Career

Jani Hurme began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of TPS Turku, with its U20 Junior Champion in 1993 he was in the corresponding age group. In the following years, the goalkeeper was able to prevail in the professional team of TPS and was with his team in 1994 and 1997 respectively vice-champion and won at European level in the 1996/97 season with TPS the European Hockey League in the finals he was particularly convincing and in the All- Star team, he was elected. Also personally was the Finn, who collected divisioona match practice from 1993 to 1996 in parallel in the second class I, won several awards at TPS in his time. In the season 1995/96 he received the Jarmo - Wasama Memorial Trophy as the best rookie of the SM - liiga and the following year, both the Lasse - Oksanen trophy as the best player in the main round, as well as the Urpo - Ylönen trophy as the best goalkeeper.

In the NHL Entry Draft 1997 Hurme was selected in the third round as a total 58 players from the Ottawa Senators, came in the following two years, however, initially only in the International Hockey League for the Detroit Vipers, Indianapolis and Cincinnati Cyclones Ice on the ice. While he was in the 1999/2000 season his debut in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa, but were held to a single application and spent the entire rest of the season with their IHL farm team Grand Rapids Griffins. There he was able to convince and was appointed to the All-Star team. From 2000 to 2003, the Finn was indeed regularly in the NHL to use - initially continue for Ottawa and in the season 2002/ 03 for the Florida Panthers - but never ran in more than a third of the games. On 3 October 2003 he was cast against a fourth- round option for the NHL Entry Draft 2004 to the Atlanta Thrashers, graduated to injury and illness in the following two years, however, not a single obligation Hockey game more.

In the season 2005/ 06 Hurme returned to the ice back and played for the Chicago Wolves and Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League, and the Columbia Inferno in the ECHL. For the following season the Olympians received in 2002 a contract with his hometown club TPS Turku, where he was able to continue immediately to his old form, and both in the main round, as well as in the playoffs had a catch rate of over 91 percent. In the summer of 2007, the Finn joined the Swedish second division Malmö Redhawks of the HockeyAllsvenskan. This he left after two and a half years and was engaged by the Finnish SM- liiga club Ilves Tampere during the season 2009/10.

Internationally

For Finland Hurme took part in the World Championships in 1997 and 2003, and at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In addition, he was in the 2007 line-up of his country at the Euro Hockey Tour.
