Jérôme Savary
Jérôme Savary (* June 27, 1942 in Buenos Aires, † March 4, 2013 in Levallois -Perret ) was a French film director, theater and opera director, actor and author.
Life
Jérôme Savary, Jean was born the son of a writer and his mother was a daughter of the New York politician Frank W. Higgins. 1947 moved his mother in the Ardèche, where he grew up with his two brothers and in Le Chambon- sur -Lignon the Collège Cévenol visited. In Paris he studied music with Maurice Martenot and later Décoratifs at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts.
At 19, he went to New York, where he lived as a jazz musician (trumpet ) and Lenny Bruce, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Count Basie and Thelonious Monk met.
After he had completed his military service in Argentina, he returned to Paris. He made friends with Fernando Arrabal or Copi, for whom he worked as a comic strip artist, wrote photo novels and was chauffeur, including the widow of Charlie Parker.
After his first directorial work at theaters in Argentina and France Savary founded in 1965 in Paris, Compagnie Jérôme Savary, from which and finally developed Le Grand Magic Circus Le Grand Magic Circus et ses animaux Tristes. With its predominantly composed of non-professional actors theater troupe in their performances he often participated as master of ceremonies, Savary was also known internationally.
From 1982 to 1986 Savary led the Centre National du dramatique Languedoc -Roussillon, then until 1988, the Carrefour Européen du Théâtre du 8e à Lyon. From 1988 to 2000 he was director of the Théâtre national de Chaillot, and then to 2007 director of the Opéra -Comique.
His production of Cabaret won the 1987 " Moliere ". The range of his directorial work was very wide and included drama, opera, operetta and musical; Molière's Bourgeois Gentilhomme on Verdi's Rigoletto, Offenbach's La Périchole and Lehar's Merry Widow to Irma la Douce Monnot Musical. As a result, Savary staged continuously in Germany, Austria plays, operettas, musicals, operas, and was a guest at the opera houses of San Francisco, Washington, Shanghai, Tokyo, Rome and Madrid ( approximately at the Bregenz Festival ) and France. Savary often brought out up to eight productions a year, in total there were more than 300. 1990 he also staged the revue Holiday on Ice at the Olympiahalle Munich.
Last Savary had for himself and his theater troupe and musicians La Boîte à Rêves found a new home in a former Franciscan abbey in south-west France Béziers and took from there tours as a freelance director and producer.
In the co-productions of the State Theatre of Lower Austria with the stage Baden staged Savary 2010-2012 in the summer Arena in Baden near Vienna three works by Ferdinand Raimund: 2010 King of the Alps and the Menscheinfeind, 2011 The Spendthrift and 2012 Farmers as a millionaire.
