Jimmy Haslip

Jimmy Haslip ( born December 31, 1951 in Bronx, New York City ) is an American jazz bassist.

Career

Haslip learned as a child, trumpet and other wind instruments and moved at the age of fifteen years for bass. Mid-1970s, he had the opportunity to spend some time working with Jaco Pastorius. In 1977 he founded with Robben Ford, Russell Ferrante and Ricky Lawson fusion group Yellowjackets.

Haslip is one of the few representatives of the reverse style, that is, he plays as a left-handed left-handed bass with right hand covering the strings. This results in him playing technique possibilities are denied what other. This is also reflected in its accompanying lines and his solos.

In addition to the Yellow Jackets, he worked in a band with Allan Holdsworth, Alan Pasqua and Chad Wackerman and as a sideman with numerous artists such as Bruce Hornsby, Rita Coolidge, Gino Vannelli, Tommy Bolin, Allan Holdsworth, Marilyn Scott, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Jing Chi, Donald Fagen, Anita Baker, David Sanborn, Rod Stewart, Michael Sembello, Joe Cocker, Vince Mendoza, Eric Marienthal, Jeff Lorber, Chris Becker, John Scofield and Gary Wright and took on their own albums.
