Johannes Rydzek

John Rydzek (born 9 December 1991 in Oberstdorf) is a German nordic combined.

Career

Already fourteen- year Rydzek was first used in October 2005 in a FIS race, however, he finished only 52nd. Next year, he could not achieve better placement than a 32nd place in this division club race. For this he was fifth in 2007 a ​​junior race in March, the same year he managed a 13th place in a FIS race. In 2007 he was also German youth champion in singles competition. In January 2008 Rydzek finally managed his first podium finish in a FIS race, when he first came in fourth in the Gundersen method, and then even second in the sprint in Baiersbronn. Now put him the German Association as C- Squad athlete in B- World Cup, where he Sixteenth was in his first competition. At the Junior World Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten Rydzek won with the team. In the individual competitions over 5 or 10 kilometers, it came to fourth place respectively. In the team competition of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he won together with Björn Kircheisen, Eric Frenzel and Tino Edelmann on 23 February 2010, the bronze medal. In the individual competition on the normal hill he was 28 at the end of the season, he finished in 25th place in the overall World Cup standings.

In the season 2010/11 he was able to establish with several top ten results finally in the world rankings. At the World Cup in Ramsau he celebrated his first podium finish in third place. At the Junior World Championships in Estonia Otepaeae he won the world title on the ten- kilometer distance. In the competition over five kilometers, he won the silver medal. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo 2011 Rydzek won silver with the team in both team competitions, as well as in the individual decision of the large hill. Here he sat down in the final sprint against his compatriot Eric Frenzel through, but was beaten nearly to the French Olympic champion Jason Lamy Chappuis. On 12 March 2011, he won the season finale at Lahti his first World Cup race when he again sat down in a sprint against Frenzel. In the overall World Cup he achieved his best to date with placing sixth. On 14 October 2011 Rydzek was named Junior Sportsperson of the Year 2011.

In the World Cup season 2011/12 Rydzek ever reached the podium with the team and in singles. In the winter of 2012/13 he won for the first time in a World Cup race with the team and with Eric Frenzel in a team sprint.

In October 2013 he won after 2010 and 2011 for the third time the German championship. The following winter he was able to place in the World Cup races usually in the top five, three times stood at the end of the second rank to book. There were also a third place in the team sprint and the victory of the German team in the team competition on January 25, 2014 in Oberstdorf. At the Olympic Games in Sochi, he reached the sixth place in the competition on the normal hill. After jumping over the large hill he fought in the long run with four competitors for the win, but collided in the last corner with teammate Fabian Rießle and came to fall, so he finished only eighth place. In team competition, he won the silver medal with Eric Frenzel, Björn Kirch iron and Fabian Rießle. In the first competition after the games Rydzek won on February 28, 2014 for the second time a single competition in the World Cup, as again in 2011 in Lahti. Also in the next two World Cups in Norway he wins. At the end of the season John Rydzek finished second in the overall standings to second place behind Eric Frenzel.
