John Barrasso

John Anthony Barrasso ( born July 21, 1952 in Casper, Wyoming) is an American politician of the Republican Party. Since 2007 he represents the state of Wyoming in the U.S. Senate.

Biography

Early life

John Barrasso, a graduate of Georgetown University in the vintage 1974, received four years later in 1978, at the same faculty received his Doctorate in orthopedics. He was then physician at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven ( Connecticut ).

Later Barrasso returned to Wyoming back, opened his own practice and is also chief of staff Wyoming Medical Center. In parallel, he is a member of numerous medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, where he sits on the Committee on Ethics and judicial affairs. Furthermore Barrasso is a physician at various high schools of Wyoming and formerly entitled " Wyoming Physician of the Year " (ie " Wyominger Physician of the Year ") was excellent.

Barrasso is considered conservative, is a supporter of pro-life movement and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Political career

Back in 1996, Barrasso tried to win a seat in the Senate of the United States, but he was defeated in the code just his opponent Mike Enzi. This came to 33% of the vote, while Barrasso was only 32%. In 2002, Barrasso was elected to the Senate from Wyoming and re-elected in 2006. He was responsible in his capacity for infrastructure, transport and highways of Wyoming.

After the death of Senator Craig L. Thomas on 4 June 2007 Barrasso was appointed on 22 June by Governor Dave Freudenthal to succeed him, and sworn in on 25 June. He was one of three candidates had to submit to the Democratic Governor of the Board of Wyoming Republican Party, and received it in preference to Cynthia Lummis and Tom Sansonetti. In the by-election in 2008 Barrasso was confirmed for the remaining four years of the term of office. He won with 73.4 percent of the vote to Democrat Nicholas H. Carter.

Private life

John Barrasso is divorced from his first wife and married again since 2008. He is the father of three children and a devout Presbyterian.
