John D. Waihee III

John Waihee III ( born May 19, 1946 in Honokaa, Hawaii) is an American politician. He was from 1986 to 1994, the fourth Governor of the U.S. state of Hawaii.

Career

John Waihee was born in 1946 in Honokaa in Hawaii County. He received his BA in History and Business Administration at the Andrews University in Michigan, where he earned his law degree at the University of Hawaii in 1976. His political career began in 1978 with the election to the Constitutional Convention ( Constitutional Convention ). In 1980 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Hawaii, 1982 Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. In 1986 he was elected as the successor of George Ariyoshi for the fourth Governor of Hawaii; he was the first elected indigenous governor of Hawaii. His term was from 1 December 1986 to 5 January 1994; another candidacy was not possible according to the state constitution. Was succeeded by his Vice- Governor Ben Cayetano.
