John Hynes (ice hockey)

John Hynes ( born February 10, 1975 in Warwick, Rhode Iceland ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player and current coach. Since July 2010 he has been head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League.

Career

John Hynes studied at Boston University and went with moderate success from 1994 to 1997 for the ice hockey team in the Hockey East, one of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division, on the ice. Rather than pursue a professional career in the connection, Hynes was appointed in 1996/97 season as assistant coach of the team. In this position he remained active until 1998, before Hynes for the following two seasons, took over the position of head coach for the U.S. National Team Development Program in the United States Hockey League. In the 2001 /02 season he coached as an assistant coach the hockey team of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. In the following years he engaged especially for youth development in the United States.

Except for a short-term commitment as head coach for the Wisconsin Badgers, the ice hockey team of the University of Wisconsin- Madison, he was until 2009 worked at the U.S. Association and coached the hockey team in the USHL. Hynes served his home country and at various World Youth Championships, when he led the U18 and U20 national team to six World Cups and three of them graduated as head coach. Under his leadership, the U18 won the gold medal at the World Championships in 2006. The same he repeated with the U20 national team two years later. For the 2009/10 season Hynes was engaged as assistant coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. In July 2010, he was introduced as head coach of the franchise after Todd Reirden had migrated to the Pittsburgh Penguins, to work there as an assistant coach.

As assistant Hynes is the former player Alain Nasreddine aside. The team made ​​a successful start to the 2010/11 season, so that Hynes has been nominated for the AHL All- Star Classic as head coach since the middle of January 2011 Penguins were in first place in the league and the Eastern Conference spearheaded. He led the team to the Western Conference All-Stars.
