John Lilley (ice hockey)

John Lilley ( born August 3, 1972 in Wakefield, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who during his playing career in the National Hockey League for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and in Germany for the Düsseldorf EC Kassel Huskies and SERC Wild Wings in the German Ice Hockey League played.

Career

The Americans began his career in 1989 in the High School team of the Cushing Academy Penguins and then went from 1991 to 1992 for Hockey Team Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association on the ice. The right winger was selected in the seventh round at the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 at a total of 140 position of the Winnipeg Jets, for whom he never ran aground. In the season 1992/93 Lilley was active for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League and scored in 50 games a total of 54 points scorer for the team. On March 9, 1994, he signed as a free agent a contract with the newly formed NHL franchise Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, where he in 1993/94 a total of 13 games completed by the end of the season and scored seven points. In addition, he was also at their farm team, the San Diego Gulls, in the International Hockey League action. In the 1996/97 season he was there mainly active for the Providence Bruins. He reached in 73 games total 38 points and received 154 penalty minutes. In the summer of 1997, Lilley decided to leave the United States and move to Germany. Shortly thereafter, it took the Düsseldorf EC under contract, in which he completed 44 games in the German Ice Hockey League, scored 23 points and received 120 penalty minutes. The following year he was at the Kassel Huskies in action and 18 games played. That same season, he joined the club and the SERC Wild Wings joined them. There he presented in the 1999/2000 season with 172 penalty minutes in 48 games his career record.

He then returned to his homeland and signed with the Long Beach Ice Dogs, for which he was active in the West Coast Hockey League. Lilley was there on, mainly due to his points haul and his collected penalty minutes. In a total of 126 games for the Ice Dogs he scored 105 points, he also sat 361 minutes in the penalty box. After expiry of his contract in the summer of 2002, he ended his active career.

Internationally

For the American ice hockey team Lilley was at the 1994 Winter Olympics in use. He followed all eight matches and scored three goals, the selection of the tournament reached the eighth rank. Also in the 1994 World Cup, he was employed in eight games and scored one goal, the team placed fourth on the final rank. In addition, he completed qualification for the 1999 World Cup in Klagenfurt, Austria, and played at the Junior World Championships in 1992, where he won the bronze medal.
