John Van Boxmeer

John Van Boxmeer ( born November 20, 1952 in Petrolia, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and since 1984 active as a coach.

Career as a player

John van Boxmeer began his career in 1972 at the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the American North American Hockey League. In the NHL Amateur Draft 1972 it chose the Montreal Canadiens in the first round to 14th position. From 1973, he came to assignments with the Canadiens in the National Hockey League and won in the 1975/76 season the Stanley Cup.

He subsequently moved to the Colorado Rockies and 1979 to the Buffalo Sabres. In 1983, Van Boxmeer played some games at the Quebec Nordiques in the NHL, then at the Fredericton Express and the Rochester Americans in the AHL.

Overall, Van Boxmeer played 588 games in the NHL and 213 in the AHL.

Career as a coach

From the season 1984/85 Van Boxmeer was coach of the Rochester Americans and won in the 1986/87 season, the AHL championship, the Calder Cup. From 1990 to 1992 he trained as an assistant coach the Buffalo Sabres, but returned in 1993 as a coach back to the Rochester Americans. From 1995, he was the coach of the Los Angeles Ice Dogs, and then in its successor team, the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the International Hockey League contract. In the seasons 2003/2004 and 2005/2006 Van Boxmeer was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings.

From the season 2006/ 07 he was head coach of SC Bern and led the team already this season in the play-off final.

In the 2007 /08 season John Van Boxmeer closed and his team with 111 points (22 points clear of HC Servette Genève ) and a goal difference of 75 to qualify on the first rank from. However, in the playoffs, they knew no more convincing and in the quarter- final against Fribourg- Gottéron from.

On August 1, 2008 John Van Boxmeer suffered a heart attack. He returned almost a month later as coach of SC Bern in the gang back and coached the team for the start of season 2008/09. After the qualification was obtained for the SC Bern in the elimination play-off quarter-final against the EV train. As a result, John Van Boxmeer was removed from office. From the season 2009/10 Van Boxmeer worked as a coach at Lausanne HC. The team was B- Master 2010, but missed the promotion to the National League against the EHC Biel. In October 2012, he was after a disappointing interim results - the Lausanne HC occupied only rank 14:06 season games - dismissed with immediate effect.
