Joost de Lalaing

Josse de Lalang ( nl. Joost van Lalang, * probably around 1442; † August 5, 1483 at the siege of Utrecht) was governor of Holland and Zeeland 1480-1483 He was the eldest son of Simon de Lalang and Jeanne de Gavre. who had married in 1441.

Life

Josse de Lalang was Seigneur de Montigny and Hantes as his father's heir († 1476 ), and Lord of Brakel and Zalardinge ( today part of Geraardsbergen ) as his mother heritage ( † 1478). 1481, he also bought the master rule of the family, Lallaing.

He was a counselor and eunuchs in the service of Duke Charles the Bold and later the Archduke Maximilian of Austria. In 1462 he became Admiral of Flanders as his father's successor, 1474 Grand Bailiff of Flanders, 1477, he fought in the Battle of Nancy, in the Duke Karl died and he was taken prisoner. 1480 he was appointed governor of Holland and Zeeland as the successor of Wolfhart VI. appointed by Borsselen, who was no longer up to the task. In 1478 he was elected by Maximilian Knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece. Family

Josse de Lalaings married in 1462 Bonne de la Viefville, Lady of Sains, Herle, Tangris, etc. Maurepas daughter and heiress of Louis de la Viefville and Marguerite Cotte. She died on March 2, 1503 in Arras, and was buried in the Church of Sainte- Claire. Their children were:
