José García-Margallo y Marfil

José Manuel García- Margallo y Marfil ( born August 13, 1944 in Madrid ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular.

Life and career

García- Margallo studied law and economics at the University of Bilbao, earning both degrees in 1965. In 1973, he received the Master of Laws from Harvard University.

Between 1977 and 1979 he was a deputy in the Congreso de los Deputies and then to 1982, Chairman of the Committee on Petitions of the Spanish Chamber of Deputies. From 1986 to 1994 he was speaker of Economy and Finance. From 1994 until December 2011 he was a member of the European Parliament. On 21 December 2011, he was appointed Foreign Minister in the Cabinet Rajoy.
