Josef Lenz

Josef " Sepp " Lenz ( born February 8, 1935 in Koenigssee ) is a former German luger and trainer.

His greatest success as a player, he managed in 1962 by winning the European Champion title in the single-seater. After his career he became a coach (later national coach ) and is regarded as the discoverer and promoter of Georg Hackl. Under his direction, won German luge athletes at Olympic Games, World and European Championships nearly 100 medals. In an accident on the Winterberg bobsleigh track Lenz was separated in December 1993, the lower leg of the left leg below the knee when he was captured while cleaning the web from the American luger Bethany Calcaterra.
