Josef Mayr

Josef Mayr ( * June 16, 1900 in Augsburg, † August 2, 1957 in La Spezia, Italy ) was a German politician and member of the Nazi Party. He was from 1934 to 1945 mayor of the city of Augsburg.

Life and work

Mayr was born the son of a railway official in Augsburg and attended secondary school. From 1917 to 1918 he made ​​service as a volunteer in the First World War, after which he joined the Freikorps. After the war he became secretary of the Augsburg city treasury, but was formed during which courses through the School of Administration continued.

In 1922, he finally joined the NSDAP. In 1929 he moved into the city council in 1933, Mayr and was deputy mayor of the city of Augsburg. In December 1934, he was elected as the first mayor, he was also Gauamtsleiter for local politics.
