Paul Wengert

Paul Raphael Wengert ( born November 18, 1952 in Ellwangen ) is a German local and state politician ( SPD). Since the legislature in 2008 he is a member of the Bavarian Parliament. Previously, he was Mayor of the city of Augsburg and First Mayor of the town of Füssen.

Career

Wengert grew up in Ellwangen on, where he attended high school and worked occasionally at the Aalen People's Daily. He is a member of the SPD since 1972. From 1974 to 1979 he studied law, economics and theology at the University of Würzburg. After its successful Doctorate in Law. utr. In 1982, he worked as a criminal court judge at the District Court of Augsburg and as a lawyer with the Public Prosecutor Augsburg.

From 1984, Wengert worked increasingly in his political career; at this time he was deputy chairman of the SPD and the local council in Horgau. Two years later he became the first chairman, and from 1987 he worked as a judge at the District Court of Augsburg. Mayor of Augsburg

In 2002, Wengert Mayor of Augsburg and remained so long a period before he was not re-elected in early 2008. Wengert was nominated for the commitment of the city of Augsburg, after the 2004 tsunami disaster for the World Mayor Award 2006 and finished at the end of the sixth. On March 16, 2008 Paul Wengert lost with 44.1% to 55.9 % in the runoff election for mayor of Augsburg against the CSU candidate Kurt Gribl. He was the first incumbent Mayor of Augsburg since the 2nd World War, which took up for re-election and was not elected.

Member of Parliament

Prior to the election Wengert was nominated as a direct candidate for the vocal circuit 711 Marktoberdorf and additionally set to place three of the SPD list of Swabia. In his voting district, he received 14 %, which was in third place after Angelika Schorer (CSU ) ( 48.2 %) and Herbert Heissler (CDU ) ( 15.6 %)., But was able to move about the country list in the state legislature.

Personal

Beginning of April 2008 gave Wengert known after his defeat in the mayoral election that he is leaving with his family in Augsburg. Wengert now lives in Fussen. He is married and has two grown daughters.
