Hans Breuer (politician)

Johann ( " Hans " ) Breuer ( born September 16, 1930 in Opava ) is a German local politician of the SPD. He was from 1972 to 1990 mayor of Augsburg.

Life

Hans Breuer came as Upper Silesian expellees in 1946 to Westendorf (Landkreis Augsburg). Later he moved to Augsburg, where, after an apprenticeship as an electrician as electrician had a job in the NAK. In 1953 he went as an apprentice to the Union Textile Clothing and became later in there to the union secretary.

On February 20, 1956 he married his wife Sieglinde. The marriage went forth a son.

Political career

In 1956, the then union secretary was elected to the Augsburg city council. This he was a member until 1990. From 1966 to 1972 he served as Sports Director and third mayor. In 1972 he was elected Mayor of the city of Augsburg. He held until 1990 this office. During his tenure, the magnificent 2000 year celebration of Augsburg falls in 1985.

The Social Democrat sat in favor of the voters three times against CSU candidate for OB mandate through. In 1972 Breuer won over the local politicians Ludwig Kotter, in 1978 about the state representative Hermann Knipfer and in 1984 over the Bundestag Stefan Höpfinger.

In Hans Breuer of office his involvement fall in the emergence of the Central Hospital and the University of Augsburg. Together with the land councils surrounding counties happened the reasons of the Augsburg Transport Association. As a sports speaker him which paved the way for the holding of the Olympic canoe slalom competitions succeeded at Augsburg ice track in 1972. During the same year the politicians opened the newly built Spickelbad.

Honors

In 1983 the Order of Merit he was awarded the Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany. October 26, 1991, Breuer honorary citizen of the city of Augsburg. The University of Augsburg has chosen him in 1992 to honor Senator.
