Wolfgang Pepper

Wolfgang Pepper ( born October 14, 1910 in Kiel, † October 12, 1997 in Berlin) was a German journalist and politician (SPD).

Life and career

Pepper was born the son of a book printer. After attending primary school, he first completed a journalism internship and then worked for Socialist newspapers in Schleswig -Holstein. In 1933 he was dismissed for political reasons, and provided with a prohibition. During the period of National Socialism, he worked as a clerk. In 1939 he was drafted into the army, took part as a soldier in World War II and came last in captivity.

After his release from captivity Pepper moved to Augsburg, and served there as head of the municipal press office. From 1946 to 1956 he worked as city editor at the Swabian country newspaper.

Policy

Pepper had joined during the time of the Weimar Republic of the SPD, which was banned in 1933 by the Nazis. After 1945 he was again a member of the Social Democrats. Pepper was a town councilor in Augsburg since 1948, where he was in 1952 elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Pepper was in 1956 mayor of the city of Augsburg and took over in 1958 as the city comber additional charge of finance final talk. From 1964 to 1972 he served as mayor of the city. During his tenure, the foundation of the University of Augsburg and the planning of the Central Hospital fell.
