Peter Menacher

Peter Menacher ( born November 29, 1939 in Augsburg ) is a German politician. He was from 1990 to 2002 Mayor of Augsburg ( CSU).

Life

After a training officer in the Air Force Menacher studied teaching at the Pedagogical University of Augsburg. After six years as a teacher, he became an assistant at the College of Education. 1971 doctorate Menacher after completion of second degree in educational science, political science and history at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich on a subject of political education. 1970-1976 was Menacher colleague of Prof. Hans Maier in the Bavarian Ministry of Culture. 1974/1975 he participated in the training course for administrative management of the Bavarian State Chancellery with study visits in the economy and abroad participate.

Policy

From 1976 to 1990 he officiated as a professional city council and school officer of the city of Augsburg, where he was active in numerous national boards of education and education policy. Among other things, he was chairman of the school board of the German Association of Cities. In 1990 he was elected Mayor of the city of Augsburg. He was re- elected in 1996. The focus of his tenure included the construction of numerous kindergartens and new tram lines, the expansion of the road network and cultural projects. He also began the conversion of barracks in areas for residential, commercial and green, as well as the profiling of Augsburg as an environmental competence center. Menacher served on the board of the German Association of Cities and was from 1998 to 2002 whose representatives in the Committee of the Regions in Brussels. In 2002, he did not run and retired from office.

On 31 March 2003 Peter Menacher was awarded the honorary citizenship of the city of Augsburg. In the same year he was appointed curator of the Kurt and Felicitas Four Metz Foundation. Menacher is since 1991 an honorary member of the Catholic Student Association K.St.V. Ludovicia Augsburg in CT.
