Jules Vandenpeereboom

Jules Henri Pierre François Vandenpeereboom ( born March 18, 1843 in Kortrijk, † March 6, 1917 in Anderlecht) was a Belgian Catholic politician and Prime Minister.

Studies and professional activities

Vandenpeereboom worked for the Study of Law and the graduation to Doctor iuris as a lawyer in his native city of Kortrijk.

Political career

In 1878 he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies. There he represented until 1900, the interests of the Katholieke Partij the arrondissement of Kortrijk.

From 1884 to 1899 he was Minister of Railways, Post and Telegraph in the Cabinets of Auguste Beernaert, Jules de Burlet and Paul de Smet de Naeyer. In this position he led 1891-1893 a bilingual stamps. In the cabinet of de Smet de Naeyer he was also minister of war from 1896 to 1899.

On January 24, 1899, he was followed by de Smet de Naeyer the Prime Minister. However, this office he held only until August 5, 1899. At the same time he kept the offices of Minister of War and the Minister of Railways, Post and Telegraph continue to hold.

For his political merits him in 1900 the honorary title of Minister of State was awarded.

From 1904 to 1917 he was a senator of the province of West Flanders.
