K-PAX (film)

K -PAX - Anything is possible (AKA: K- PAX ) is a film directed by Iain Softley from 2001 with Kevin Spacey in the lead role. The film is based on the novel " K -PAX " ( German book title: "How is a third party star") by Gene Brewer and tells the story of a man who claims from about 1,000 light years distant planet K -PAX in the vicinity of the constellation Lyra to come.

Action

Because he does not carry identity cards with them and behaves unusually, Prot is arrested in Grand Central Station in New York. He is as self-evident as extraterrestrial beings in human form from which come from a planet called K- Pax, and is then sent to a psychiatric institution. When he responds to no treatment after a month, Dr. Powell is assigned to it, who neglected his family because of his work. It turns out that Prot -fed preference of fruits and that he can see ultraviolet light. It does not take long until some employees and especially the patients of the institution keep his story to be true. Also Dr. Powell is impressed by the plausibility of the statements.

After Prot has answered a list of astrophysical questions with amazing details, Dr. Powell travels with him to the Hayden Planetarium to find out more with a group of first-class astrophysicist. Prot is to prove that he can travel faster than light, but during the demonstration he does not move from the spot. He claims to have traveled so fast that it is not perceptible to the human eye. The scientists believe this is a joke. Thereafter, however, Prot surprised the scientists by his knowledge: in particular, it can record the planetary orbits of his alleged home system and a hitherto puzzling peculiarity explain this.

Dr. Powell recognizes that Prot has an inexplicable positive impact on other patients who experienced gradually healing, where Prot of self-healing abilities speaks. Prot promises the patient that he can take one of them in his forthcoming soon return to K- Pax, whereupon meet these enthusiastic preparations. He tells of the advances that have made his fellow patients, which have now been released and that he is worried about the whereabouts of the still missing Bess. Finally, Dr. Powell meets in a long time with his son from his first marriage, he has indeed repeatedly sent money and funded the study, but with whom he had little contact.
