Karl Deichgräber

Karl Marienus Deichgräber ( born February 10, 1903 in Aurich, † December 16, 1984 in Bovenden in Göttingen ) was a German classical scholar and historian of medicine.

Life

Karl Deichgräber visited the high school until 1922 Ulricianum in Aurich. From 1922 he studied classical philology, but also other subjects in Göttingen and later in Berlin and Münster, where Hermann Beautiful encouraged him to focus on the history of medicine. In 1928 he received his doctorate in Münster with a thesis on the Greek physicians school of so-called empiricists. On his return to Berlin, to Deichgräber habilitated in 1931 with a study on the first and third epidemic book of Hippocrates. In 1935, he was appointed as Associate Professor of Gräzistik to Marburg; three years later he succeeded Max Pohlenz in Göttingen, also because, as the Rector of the University, " in ideological terms only to report Exquisite " was.
