Katsurao (Fukushima)

Katsurao (Japanese葛 尾村, -mura ) is a village community in the district of Futaba in the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima.

Geography

Katsurao lies deep in Abukuma high country, forests, and is therefore largely uninhabited. Its highest elevation within the municipality is the Hiyama (日 山) to 1054.6 m in the north- western corner, on the border with Nihonmatsu and Namie. Another neighboring community is Tamura in the south.

History

The community Katsurao arose in the course of the nationwide reorganization of the municipal system on April 1, 1889, was located in the former County Shineha (标 叶 郡, -gun ). This county was (双 叶 郡, -gun ), literally, on 1 April 1896 the county Naraha (楢 叶 郡, -gun ) to the district of Futaba, " two ha (叶) " merged.

When Tohoku Earthquake of March 11, 2011, the municipality had due to their secluded location, just little damage and until May 20, recorded four dead and one missing, but was greatly affected by the Fukushima nuclear disaster triggered it. Although only a narrow eastern strip is located within the 20 - km exclusion zone, but the central part is located within the 20 -30- km zone for the evacuation was recommended. The municipal administration and the population therefore moved only after Aizubange and on June 15 in the nearer Miharu, where temporary shelters were built.

Traffic

The most important trunk road Katsurao is the National Road 399 according to Iwaki or Nan'yō. There is no connection to the rail network.

Education

In Katsurao is the primary school Katsurao (葛 尾村 立 葛 尾 小学校, Katsurao - sonritsu Katsurao shōgakkō ) and the middle school Katsurao (葛 尾村 立 葛 尾 中 学校, Katsurao - sonritsu Katsurao chūgakkō ).
