Kauste is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Kõrgessaare ( Kõrgessaare vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

Population, location and history

Kauste has three inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

The place is located in the western part of the peninsula Tahkuna ( Tahkuna pool saar ), eight kilometers north- west of the capital Kärdla ( Kertel ).

Kauste was first mentioned in records in 1565 under the name Kowstha.
