Kayan Mentarang National Park

The National Park Kayan Mentarang is located on the island of Borneo in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Utara, south of the Malaysian border. It includes the largest protected rainforest area of Indonesia with a total area of 1.4 million hectares. Here also the Malay states of Sabah and Sarawak are recognized in territorial terms. In the south of the park are many Dayak villages.

WWF is one of the most valuable rainforest areas of the world. The National Park is threatened by the timber industry and plans for conversion of forests into agricultural land.
