Kirillov (town)
Kirillov (Russian Кириллов ) is a small town in north-west Russia. It is located in the Vologda Oblast and has 7728 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 130 km northwest of Vologda Oblasthauptstadt several lakes and the Northern Dvina Canal, which connects the river systems of the Volga and Northern Dvina.
Kirillov is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
Kirillov was created as a trade settlement ( Sloboda ), founded in 1397 by Russian Orthodox Kirillo- Belozersky Monastery, which was the most important religious and cultural center of the Russian North to the 17th century. 1776 was the site of a town.

Culture and sights
Besides the Kirillo- Belozersky Monastery other monastery complexes are obtained in the vicinity of the town, the 7 km away Goritsy Resurrection Monastery of 1544 on the banks of Scheksna as well as the 20 km distant monastery Ferapontov of 1398.
