Komm, du süße Todesstunde, BWV 161
Come, sweet hour of death, BWV 161, is a cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach.
It was probably for the October 6, 1715 (16th Sunday after Trinity ) composed in Weimar and for Candlemas. A new performance took place in Leipzig (1735? ).
The text was by Salomon Franck ( 1-5 sentences ) and Christoph Knoll written (6th set = 4 verse of Herzlich tut me ask ).
The chorale theme based on a melody that was originally composed by Hans Leo Hassler as a secular love song My G'müt is troubleth me, printed in 1601. The song O Sacred Head, Now Wounded uses the same melody. It is also one of several melodies, to which the text you Commit your ways of Paul Gerhardt is sung ( cf. St. Matthew Passion, Chorale No. 53).
