Krasnoslobodsk, Volgograd Oblast

Krasnoslobodsk (Russian Краснослободск ) is a town in Volgograd Oblast in Russia. It has 15,998 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and is located a few kilometers east of the city of Volgograd, at the opposite left bank of the Volga. Another nearby town is Wolschski containing 17 kilometers northeast adjoins Krasnoslobodsk.

History

Krasnoslobodsk emerged from a small Cossack village, which had been known since about 1850 and originally after a first settler named Bukatin ( Букатин ) wore. The present city only began to form after here emerged in the 1890s first workshops for the repair of Volga ships.

After the October Revolution, the town was declared a so-called workers 'settlement and 1933 in Krasnoslobodsk ( Krasnaya Sloboda, literally " red ( suburban ) development", with red the color of the communist workers' movement ) renamed. Initially it belonged administratively to Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad ).
