Kuznetsovsk

Kusnezowsk (Ukrainian Кузнецовськ; Russian Кузнецовск ) is a city in western Ukraine, Rivne Oblast with 40 875 inhabitants ( 2012). The city is located in the southern foothills of Prypjatsümpfe on the right bank of the river Styx. It is mainly inhabited by ethnic Ukrainians ( 90.6 %). The largest minority, the Russian population at 7.6% ( 2001).

The foundation of the town took place in 1973 when it was started in the immediate vicinity of the construction of the nuclear power plant Rivne. Before the village Warasch (Ukrainian and Russian Вараш ) had stood on the site since 1776. This was founded in 1776 and replaced on the 200th anniversary by Kusnezowsk. Today the old settlement Warasch no longer exists.

1977 was the rapidly growing settlement its present name, it is named after the reconnaissance Nikolai Ivanovich Kuznetsov. The population grew rapidly in the following decades of 9026 (1979 ) on 29 858 (1989) and 39 643 inhabitants (2004) to 40 875 (2012 ) on. This makes it one of the few Ukrainian cities, which recorded a strong growth in the 1990s. The fact that it was only built in the 1970s, it is an interesting example of late urban socialist architecture. In 1984 she was awarded the status of a city.
