Ostroh

Ostroh (Ukrainian Острог; Russian Ostrog, Polish Ostrog ) is a small Ukrainian town with just over 14,000 residents. It is situated in Rivne Oblast, at the confluence of Viliya with the Horyn and is located on the M21 motorway south of the district capital of Rivne. It is located close to the border with the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, the next largest cities are Rivne and Shepetivka.

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1100, in 1795 she received the city status awarded. Between 1920 and 1939/45 Ostroh was under the Polish name Ostrog border town between Poland and the Soviet Union.

Ostroh is twinned with the Polish town of Sandomierz.
