Rivne Oblast

The Rivne Oblast (Ukrainian Рівненська область / Riwnenska oblast, Russian Ровенская область / Rowenskaja oblast ) is an administrative unit of the Ukraine in the northwest of the country. It has around 1.16 million inhabitants (2014).

The oblast comprises part of the historic landscape Volhynia. To the north is the boundary with Belarus with the Breszkaja Woblasz and their Rajonen Pinsk and Stolin and Homelskaja Woblasz with their Grenzrajonen Rajon Iwanawa, Leltschyzy. In the West Oblast borders the Volyn oblast, on the southwest by the Lviv Oblast. The southern border is the Ternopil Oblast, located in the southeast of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast, in the east the Zhytomyr Oblast.

By Oblast run the main traffic route from Ukraine to Poland and Germany, as well as the river Horyn and Slutsch.

The Rivne Oblast stretches from west to east is 130 km, from north to south 210 km from. The population is 52.5 % in rural areas to 47.5 % in urban areas. 853,000 acres are forested. The oblast is rich in water surfaces. There are 171 rivers, each 10 km long, more than 500 lakes and 31 reservoirs.

Geography

The largest rivers are the Prypiat (Ukrainian Прип'ять ) and the Styx (Ukrainian Стир ).

Although the Prpjat is the largest river in the oblast, it flows through only a few kilometers. He passed the Ukrainian- Belarusian border and returns just before Kiev in the Ukraine, where he runs into the Dnipro. The Styx cuts the Oblast twice, once in the southwest, the second time in the Northwest.

The longest river in the oblast is the Horyn, he roams the Oblast from south to north. It flows the district capital of Rivne in a northeastern arc, it opens in the right side of the Slutsch that comes from the east.

Largest cities and settlements

Capital of the Oblast is Rivne; other important cities are Sarny and Dubno.

Administrative subdivision

The Rivne Oblast is administratively divided into 16 Rajone and 4 directly below the Oblastverwaltung cities. These are the towns Dubno, Kusnezowsk, Ostroh as well as the eponymous administrative center of the oblast, the city of Rivne.
