L'Hôpital-du-Grosbois

L' Hôpital -du Gros - Bois is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

L' Hôpital -du Gros - Bois is located on 565 m above sea level, 10 km west of Valdahon and approximately 16 km east-southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, in the west of the plateau of Valdahon, on the southern edge of the forest area Forêt du Gros -Bois.

The area of ​​7.84 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The southern part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Valdahon, which is on average 560 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the north the plateau is from the high ridges of the Côte d' Anroz ( here is 681 m, the highest elevation of L' Hôpital -du -Gros Bois reached) and in the northwest of the height of Mont Bon ( to 650 m) limited. Much of this ridge is forested ( Forêt du Gros -Bois ). In the north, the municipality's area extends to the edge of the basin of the Saone.

History

L' Hôpital originated in the Middle Ages through the establishment of a hospital, which came to the Hospital Saint- Jacques, Besançon in 1453. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today, L' Hôpital du Gros Bois Member of the comprehensive 24 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Population

With 554 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) L' Hôpital du Gros Bois is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1911 322 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure

L' Hôpital du Gros Bois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road N57, which runs from Besancon to Pontarlier.
