La Montagne, Haute-Saône

La Montagne is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Montagne is situated at an altitude of 655 m above sea level, 9 km north-northeast of Faucogney -et -la -Mer and about 48 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The scattered settlement municipality extends in the far northeast of the department, in the south-western Vosges, in the valley of the Ruisseau de la Montagne.

The area of ​​12.61 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the plateau landscape criss-crossed by valleys on the western edge of the Vosges. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau de la Montagne, which provides for drainage south to Breuchin. The valley of La Montagne is more than 100 m deep sunk into the surrounding plateau. At La Montagne include two small lakes, the Etang Peux and the Etang Murots and several ponds.

Flanked the trough in the southeast of the Roches de la Louviere ( 752 m), to the east of the height of the Bambois ( with 808 m is here the highest peak of La Montagne reached), in the northwest of the woods of the Bois of the tree and the Bois de Bellechaume. This fall towards the west from a tributary of the Combeauté. In the far north of the municipality extends to the bottom of the Giraultfaihy wooded hilltop (803 m), which on the other hand marks the watershed between the valleys of Combeauté and Breuchin the one hand ( in the catchment area of the Rhône) and Mosel ( the Rhine basin ). La Montagne consists of several hamlets and farms:

  • Le Marchessant (630 m) on the eastern slope of the valley of the Ruisseau de la Montagne

Neighboring communities of La Montagne are Girmont -Val- D'Ajol in the north, Rupt -sur -Moselle and La Rosiere in the east and La Longine in the south.

History

In the Middle Ages La Montagne belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. La Montagne was obtained only after the French Revolution, an independent municipality. Today La Montagne is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs. The municipality does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish Corravillers.

Attractions

On the crest of the valley of La Montagne west stands the chapel of Beauregard, which was built in 1886. The hamlets are characterized by farmhouses dating from the 17th to the 19th century, showing the traditional style of the region.

Population

With 40 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Montagne is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population decreased continuously (1881 were still 538 persons counted ). Population growth was observed again only in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

La Montagne is still a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near a secondary road that leads from Saint- Bresson Remiremont. Further road links exist with La Rosière and La Longine.
