Labruguière

Labruguière ( Occitan La Bruguièira ) is a commune with 6320 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Tarn, in the Midi -Pyrénées; it belongs to the district of Castres and is the administrative center of the canton Canton Labruguière.

Geography

Labruguière located near the Monts du Sidobre and the Montagne Noire, on the banks of the river Thoré, a tributary of the Agout which opens itself again in the Tarn. Labruguière is located about eight kilometers south-southeast of Castres and about 66 km east-southeast of Toulouse. The community is also limited by the Orbiel and the Rouge Anne, both of which culminate in the Aude. The municipality is both a part of the Regional Natural Park of Haut Languedoc and - in the extreme northeast of the community - a part of the airport Castres- Mazamet.

History

985 round the village Brugeria is mentioned in the area. The castle built in 1266, the Church of Saint Thyrs 1313. Château was built in the 17th century by Louis of Cardaillac.

Already in 1793, the population of the village is given as 3,759.
