Lars Løkke Rasmussen

Lars Løkke Rasmussen ( born May 15, 1964 in Vejle, Denmark ) is a Danish politician and served from 2009 to 2011 Prime Minister of Denmark.

Political career

Løkke Rasmussen was from 1998 Office Mayor of Frederiksborg office until he joined the government in 2001. He was Interior and Health Minister in the governments of Anders Fogh Rasmussen I ( 27 November 2001 to 18 February 2005) and Fogh Rasmussen II ( 18 February 2005 to 23 November 2007). After the general election in 2007, he worked as finance minister in the third cabinet Fogh Rasmussen.

After the NATO member countries had agreed to Anders Fogh Rasmussen as NATO's new Secretary-General, Lars Løkke Rasmussen was made as a successor in the government and party. The appointment by the Queen took place on 5 April 2009 .. He continues the coalition government of Venstre and Conservative People's Party, which continued to rely on the right-wing populist Danish People's Party majorities in Parliament.

Was controversial, especially Rasmussen's foray in May 2011 to introduce checks at land borders with Germany and Sweden again. The controls should serve the defense of criminal and illegal immigrants, but were criticized as a possible violation of the Schengen Agreement and as a concession to the Danish People's Party.

In August 2011, Rasmussen announced new elections, which took place two months earlier than planned on September 15, 2011. Although it was recorded in votes for his Liberal Party, but led by Rasmussen center-right coalition missed a parliamentary majority. Rasmussen then submitted his resignation on September 16, 2011, but remained business leader in office. On October 3, Rasmussen was released simultaneously with the appointment of his successor Helle Thorning -Schmidt by Queen Margrethe II of the Office of the Prime Minister.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen from 1998 to 2009, deputy chairman of the center-right liberal party Venstre. In 2009 he took over from Anders Fogh Rasmussen also the party chairmanship.

Family

Lars Løkke Rasmussen comes from Vejle and is a lawyer. He is married to the Färingerin Solrun Jákupsdóttir Petersen since 1989. Together they have three children. They live in Græsted in the north of Zealand. Due to the origin of his wife Lars Løkke Rasmussen is often in the Faroe Islands. The children learn the Faroese language.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen Fogh by Poul Nyrup Rasmussen and Anders Rasmussen, Danish Prime Minister, the third in a row, carrying the last name " Rasmussen ", without being related to one of its two predecessors. Because of this accumulation is common in Denmark, to distinguish them with their middle names: Nyrup Rasmussen Løkke Rasmussen and Rasmussen Løkke or only briefly. Løkke is the mother's maiden name.
