Laurent Hernu

Laurent Hernu ( born August 22, 1976 in Creil ) is a French decathlete.

Hernu began at the age of eleven years with the Athletics and was initially trained by his father, a former javelin thrower and multiple fighters. By the way, he ran numerous other sports such as soccer and karate, before focusing on athletics. Not wanting to be limited to a single discipline, he chose a career as a multi-event athlete. Hernu was nine times French champion, three times in the decathlon (2000, 2002, 2003 ) and six times in a row in the heptathlon in the hall ( 2000-2005). His first Olympic participation he graduated in 2000 in Sydney, where he finished in 19th place in the decathlon. At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001 he was eighth and at the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 seventh.

His strongest season had Hernu 2003. At the World Championships in Paris, he finished fifth. He also won the Décastar in Talence and Challenge was third in the IAAF World Combined Events rating. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, he finished in seventh place. The same position he reached in the heptathlon at the IAAF European Indoor Championships 2005 in Madrid.
